From the Historical Society of the New York Courts

The Historical Society of the New York Courts has undertaken a project to publish online  the legal histories of all 62 counties of NYS. This material would be added to the rich and growing digital library of legal history that already exists. Visit the Society's website to learn more.

Already completed are five county legal histories. This is a substantial task, and the New York State Bar Association's Committee for Bar Leaders of New York State has partnered with the Historical Society to find authors.

This is an opportunity for those interested in their county's legal history to document this history. Dutchess County was authored by Hon. Albert M. Rosenblatt, former NYS Court of Appeals Judge, and President of the Historical Society. The Table of Contents for his history provides a model for topics to be covered in these county histories.

Judge Rosenblatt is available for guidance and questions to anyone choosing to author a county history. If you are interested in researching and writing a county history not already authored, please respond to Allison Morey at the Historical Society: ammorey@nycourts.gov.
