Lawyer Referral Service Representative

This is an at-will, 20-hour, part-time position.

$15.00 / hour
Parking is provided

Hours for the position are:
Monday through Friday 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, with occasional additional hours as available.

Legal and marketing administrator who answers a hotline, interviews clients regarding legal needs, provides information, classifies legal issues and refers clients to appropriate agencies or panel attorneys; processes LRS referral forms and provides other administrative assistance; and conducts marketing outreach and strategies with the Executive Director.

 

Major Responsibilities:
Answers the telephone providing LRS services quickly, professionally and courteously.

Interviews callers to determine the nature of the problem.

Provides information and referrals (but never legal advice) to individuals who want or

need to contact a panel attorney, public agency or other service organizations.

Informs clients of the nature of the service, referral costs and procedures.

Screens clients for appropriate referrals.

Records all necessary data on the computer and in office files.

Conducts follow-up with panel attorneys on collected administrative fees.

Market the LRS program, including extensive outreach with public and private organizations.

Greets visitors to the office.

Other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Other LRS Responsibilities:

1. Assists office manager with membership data processing.

2. Maintains LRS statistics data.

3. Assists with other duties as assigned by the executive director.

 

 

Working Conditions:

        Candidate must be comfortable sitting and/or standing, answering the telephone

up to 90% of working hours.

        The ACBA office is located in a busy downtown Albany corridor, near

many conveniences and bus stops.

        We are a professional office and business attire is required.  

        Organizational Relationships - LRS position reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

 

Requirements / Experience / Desired Skills:

        Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

        Required: Fluent in English. Fluency in Spanish or another language is a plus, but not required.

        Knowledge of legal terminology is a plus, but not required. Professional phone etiquette experience is required.  

        Requires 3 years of customer service and marketing experience or related work.

·         The ideal candidate is open and friendly, and works well in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will have strong customer service skills and experience working with diverse populations.

        Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) is a must.

        Proven ability to work and perform in accordance to established instructions is a must.

        Ability to cope with stress and emotions is required. Candidate should be able to demonstrate extreme patience.

        Candidate should have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Signing a confidentiality agreement will be a requirement.

        Having a car or access to other transportation is required.

        This position requires occasional attendance at evening and early morning events.

        No out-of-state travel is anticipated.

        Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 lbs. Extensive standing and walking may be required at annual events.
